Ghana must stand firm – Solomon Owusu defends Ablakwa

Former NPP member Solomon Owusu has spoken out against recent calls by the Minority Caucus to remove Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Minority had accused Ablakwa of mismanaging Ghana’s diplomatic relations, citing the country’s classification as a “migration risk” by the United States and alleged setbacks with Israel and Europe.

Owusu, now the Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), described the criticism as misplaced.

“If I ever become president, I will never send our diplomats out based on fear or political gossip. The Foreign Minister must represent Ghana’s interests firmly and confidently,” he said during an interview on TV3.

He added that Ghana’s foreign policy is clearly outlined in Article 40 of the Constitution and should not be reduced to partisan disputes.

“Ghana is a sovereign country. We cannot allow the perception of another nation to dictate our actions. Our position must always stand,” Owusu said.

Owusu also questioned the timing and intentions of the Minority’s press conference, arguing that the Foreign Minister’s actions are consistent with Ghana’s constitutional obligations.

He emphasized that viewing the United States as a superpower to which Ghana must defer undermines national pride and independence.
