Ghana teen midfielder joins Slovakian top-flight club

Ghanaian midfielder Dennis Konney has completed a permanent move to Slovakian top-flight club Spartak Trnava.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Super Liga side after leaving Portuguese giants FC Porto.

Konney spent a week on trial at Trnava before the club decided to offer him a contract.

“After the trial, we decided to offer him a 3-year contract, which we agreed on. In Dennis, we are coming to us with a young, talented footballer with potential for the future, as he once signed a 6-year contract with FC Porto, which says something,” said Spartak Trnava Sports Director Martin Skrtel.

The former Black Satellites player moved to Europe in 2025 to join Porto’s B team. He later spent a short period on loan at Gondomar.

However, after failing to make a senior appearance for Porto’s first team, Konney decided to move to a club where he can get regular playing time.

“He is physically very well equipped, strong and tall and especially football, which is what footballers who grew up in Portugal are known for. He has great prospects for the future, he may currently have minor fitness issues, but that is something we can work on. We are happy for such a talented player and we believe that his adaptation will be quick,” added Skrtel as he praised the qualities of the Ghanaian midfielder.

Konney began his football journey at Rising Stars Academy in Ghana.
