Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Simeon-Okraku has confirmed the Black Stars will name their final squad of 26 players for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 1.
Okraku set out the timeline in a message to supporters after Ghana’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Mexico in Puebla, urging the public to stay behind the team. “Let’s maintain our collective support for our stars,” he wrote.
He said the technical team, led by head coach Carlos Queiroz, was still tracking the form of Ghanaian players in Europe and other leagues before settling on the final list. The assessment carries added weight this time, with several key men, among them Mohammed Kudus, Mohammed Salisu and Abu Francis, recently sidelined by injury.
Ghana have one last warm up fixture before the tournament, a friendly against Wales on June 2, the day after the squad is unveiled.
At the World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Black Stars face Panama, England and Croatia in the group stage. Ghana open against Panama on June 17, in what will be the country’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
