The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with international partners to combat human trafficking, forced labour, child labour and employment-related fraud, following talks with a United States delegation led by US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Rolf A. Olson.
The meeting with Labour Minister Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo focused on deepening Ghana–US cooperation against labour-related crimes and protecting vulnerable workers.
US officials noted that trafficking and labour exploitation remain global concerns, disclosing that the United States lost over $10 billion to scams last year, many linked to transnational criminal networks.
The delegation commended Ghana for recent actions against trafficking and labour fraud, including steps targeting organised syndicates and extraditions.
Discussions also covered false recruitment schemes, sex trafficking, forced labour in cocoa-growing areas, exploitation of victims for online fraud, and the growing use of artificial intelligence by criminal networks, with calls for stronger technology-driven responses.
