US-based Ghanaian midfielder Helen Alormenu scored twice, including a stunning 57-yard strike, as Texas State defeated Baylor University 3-1 on Sunday night.
Matsuri Tsutsui gave Texas State an early lead in the second minute after intercepting a pass outside the box before firing into the left corner.
Baylor quickly equalised, but Alormenu restored Texas State’s lead with her first goal of the season.
Ava Kooker provided the assist, finding Alormenu in a good position to finish from close range.
The Ghanaian then produced the highlight of the match in the 72nd minute.
Alormenu won the ball near the centre line and noticed the Baylor goalkeeper was off her line. She then fired a spectacular shot from about 57 yards that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Her second goal completed her brace and helped Texas State secure a 3-1 victory.
It was Alormenu’s first two-goal game since August last year, when she scored twice against Our Lady of the Lake.
