IMANI Africa Founding President Franklin Cudjoe has welcomed the government’s settlement of a US$700 million Eurobond obligation, saying such developments should not be taken for granted.
Reacting to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, Cudjoe wrote on Facebook: “Noted. We should never take these important updates for granted at all.
“They herald so much respect for a country that was recently the butt of international jokes for being junk-rated and unable to pay its debts! Never Again.”
The Ministry of Finance announced that it had settled the US$700 million Eurobond obligation on July 2, ahead of schedule.
The payment comprised US$525.2 million in principal repayments and US$174.8 million in interest.
According to the ministry, Ghana has paid a total of US$2.1 billion to Eurobond holders since January 2025 under the Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.
It added that the payment was made through the government’s planned financing arrangements without placing undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
