Ghana’s economy is standing on concrete pillars – President Mahama brags

President John Dramani Mahama has stated confidently that Ghana’s economy is now strong enough to withstand major external shocks without collapsing.

Speaking during a citizens’ engagement in the Upper West Region, Mahama compared the current state of the economy to previous years when, he said, Ghana was highly vulnerable to events outside the country.

“In the past, Ghana’s economy used to stand on broomsticks. As soon as something happens in the world, it comes crashing down,” he said.

He said the economy now has a stronger foundation and can absorb shocks such as the ongoing Iran-Israel-US conflict.

“Today Ghana’s economy is standing on concrete pillars. So even when there’s an earthquake, the country is still standing,” Mahama added.

According to the President, the conflict would have had a much bigger impact on Ghana in previous years.

“In the past, this Iran-Israel-US war, if it had happened some years back, by now the economy would have come crashing down. But happily it’s been well managed,” he said.
