GHC21bn ‘chop chop’: Ghanaians are tired of allegations, let investigations begin – NPP MP

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has called for thorough investigations into irregularities uncovered in a special audit of government arrears, saying the country must move beyond allegations to establish the facts.

The audit found GH¢21.35 billion in suspicious, duplicated and unsupported claims within a broader GH¢68.7 billion submitted to the Ministry of Finance for payment to contractors and suppliers.

Out of the total claims reviewed, the audit validated GH¢45.4 billion, rejected GH¢8.1 billion, and placed GH¢13.3 billion under further scrutiny.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Adomako-Mensah acknowledged that the findings raise legitimate concerns but stressed that the next step must be proper investigation.

“Something has happened and it is worrying,” he said during the discussion.

However, he cautioned that the matter remains at the stage of allegations until the legal process determines otherwise.

“These are significant allegations from an audit report. But we are yet to engage the people involved through investigations and prosecution,” he said.

Adomako-Mensah also noted that public reaction to the revelations reflects growing frustration over recurring corruption claims in the country.

“We are getting too many allegations. If you read the comments from the public, people are getting tired of allegations,” he said.

For the MP, the priority now should be determining exactly what occurred and holding those responsible accountable where wrongdoing is proven.

“Let’s get to the bottom of the issues,” he added.
