GMet warns more rain as flooding hits N1 Highway, Weija, Mallam, Kasoa and parts of Accra

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that rainfall is expected to continue across parts of the country, with flooding already disrupting movement in several communities across Greater Accra and Kasoa.

Communities and roads affected by Monday’s flooding include the N1 Highway, Apenkwa, Tesano, the Accra-Kasoa stretch, Weija, Mallam, Adabraka, Achimota, Spintex, Atomic at Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction and sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.

The heavy rainfall, which began late Sunday and continued into Monday morning, left several low-lying areas submerged, affecting traffic flow and other daily activities.

In its latest weather update shared on June 29, 2026, GMet said the current weather conditions are expected to persist.

“The rain, with or without thunder, of varying intensity currently affecting parts of the coast and a few inland areas is expected to persist throughout the forecast period amidst patches of mist or fog over the forest and mountainous regions,” the Agency said.

GMet also indicated that a weather system developing along the Togo-Benin coastline is expected to increase rainfall activity over southern Ghana.

“However, a weak to moderate rainstorm sighted along the coast of Togo-Benin is anticipated to propagate westward, bringing increased cloud cover and triggering thunderstorms with rain over southern Ghana from this morning into the afternoon hours,” the Agency added.

The forecast suggests that coastal communities and parts of southern Ghana could continue to experience periods of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.
