Govt urged to publish names of contractors for school feeding rice purchases

Former director of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, Charles Nyaaba has called for greater transparency in the school feeding programme’s rice procurement process.

“We keep engaging the National Food Buffer Stock Company to publish the lists of the people they engaged to mobilise this produce, and they are failing to do that,” Nyaaba told JoyNews.

He claimed that contractors tasked with buying produce ignored local farmers.

“They gave a contract to people; instead of buying from the farmers, they imported the rice, leaving the farmers,” he said.

Despite repeated requests, Nyaaba said the government has yet to release the names of the contractors involved, raising questions about accountability in the programme.

“This lack of transparency prevents farmers from knowing who is responsible and whether local produce is being prioritised, as originally directed,” he added
