Haruna Mohammed scores NDC 1/10, questions ‘lean government’ claim

NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed has rated the governing NDC one out of ten for its performance in office.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, January 10, he criticised what he described as heavy public spending, arguing that it contradicts the government’s claim of running a “lean” administration.

Mr Mohammed referenced figures from Appendix 4A of the 2025 Budget, stating that compensation for the Office of Government Machinery and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies stands at about GH₵2.7 billion.

He compared this to what he said was roughly GH₵326.9 million spent under the previous administration, despite frequent criticism that it had too many appointees.

According to him, the gap in expenditure raises concerns about fiscal discipline and transparency.

“If I am to rate them based on governance, I will give them one out of ten,” he said. “They promised a lean government, but that lean number is spending about GH₵2.7 billion in compensation.”

Mr Mohammed warned that such spending patterns undermine public confidence and offer little relief to ordinary Ghanaians.
