He won’t appear before Parliament – Ampofo Ankrah’s lawyers

Lawyers for suspended National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah have said he will not appear before Parliament while an ongoing CID investigation involving him remains active.

In a statement, his legal representatives said appearing before Parliament at this stage could interfere with the investigative process.

“Mr. Ampofo Ankrah therefore considers it appropriate to defer any such appearance until the ongoing investigation has been concluded,” the lawyers said.

They stressed that Ampofo Ankrah has cooperated with investigators and will continue to do so.

“Mr. Ampofo Ankrah has cooperated, and will continue to cooperate fully, with the relevant authorities,” they said.

His lawyers also urged the public and media not to treat allegations or speculation as established facts, stressing that an investigation does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing.

They said Ampofo Ankrah will respond appropriately to any lawful requirement to appear before Parliament once the investigation and issues surrounding his suspension have been resolved.
