Heads roll at GES over ‘Sexy’ Headmaster

Some Managers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti Region are beginning to pay the price for the actions of the embattled Headmaster of the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr Zakaria Abdulai.

Government has come under intense attack over the conduct of the randy Headmaster, who sought to lead the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) as its Constituency Chairman in Juaben.

In the wake of seething anger from civil society groups and gender activists over his indecent allegations, the  Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr William Amankrah Appiah, and the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mr Kwamena Owusu-Nketiah, to step aside with immediate effect as investigations continue into allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr Zakaria Abdulai.

According to a GES statement issued on October 20, 2026, the decision forms part of measures to ensure that the investigation proceeds without potential interference or the perception of interference.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) directs Dr. William Amankrah Appiah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, and Mr Kwamena Owusu-Nketiah, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, to step aside with immediate effect,” the statement said.

The two directors have subsequently been instructed to hand over their offices and all state property in their possession to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Thomas Kwame Boateng.

GES said the directive is linked to ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi SHTS.

The headmaster remains interdicted, and the Service cautioned the public against reports suggesting he has been cleared.

“The headmaster also remains interdicted. Therefore, the public is urged to ignore any news making the rounds that the headmaster has been cleared,” GES stated.

The Service explained that asking the two directors to step aside was intended to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and prevent any potential interference with the process.
