His heart is partisan, his heart is green – Mike Oquaye Jnr slams Kwakye Ofosu

NPP member Mike Oquaye has criticised government communicators Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Samuel Nartey George over their defence of Emelia Afi Agbenyo’s appointment to the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing them of failing to address concerns about perceived political bias.

Oquaye argued that their explanations had not adequately answered questions about whether Agbenyo could be considered politically neutral, given her alleged history of involvement with the NDC.

He particularly criticised Kwakye Ofosu over remarks he interpreted as suggesting the appointment was intended to tilt the balance.

“He is not just saying that they did it. He is saying that they deliberately did it,” Oquaye said.

He added that the remarks reinforced his concerns about the appointment and the government’s commitment to an independent electoral process.

“His heart is biased. His heart is partisan. His heart is green, and he’s talking green for a green candidate,” he said.

Oquaye also criticised Samuel Nartey George, arguing that political figures close to the government were not well placed to dismiss concerns about the appointment.

He maintained that the government should take public perceptions seriously rather than rely on assurances that the appointment was appropriate.

Oquaye said the controversy should prompt the administration to consider reforms to prevent political appointments from undermining confidence in the Electoral Commission.

He argued that President Mahama should focus on reforms to the appointment process rather than actions that could be interpreted as favouring one political party.
