How policy and currency stability reduce food costs – Otokunor

Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of the Presidential Initiative in Agriculture and Agri-Business at the Office of the President, says Ghana’s agricultural sector faces challenges despite improvements.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he noted that while food supplies are available and prices are stable, crops are seasonal, making planning necessary to prevent shortages.

“Currently, food prices are stable, and all the food in the markets was harvested in 2025,” Otokunor stated.

He highlighted the affordability and quality of agricultural inputs as a major concern. “Most of our input supplies are imported. Any government that understands agribusiness can manage the foreign exchange market to reduce input costs,” he explained.

Otokunor also said efforts to stabilise the currency have lowered production costs.

He emphasized that effective agricultural policy and management of input supplies are essential for sustaining current gains.
