Solomon Owusu, Communications Director of the United Party, has said he could potentially be the new Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
He argued that his political background should not automatically disqualify him from serving in a role and discharging his duties perfectly.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Owusu said concerns about his possible involvement with the Electoral Commission contrast with the presence of individuals he says have political affiliations.
According to him, there are already people associated with political parties serving at the Commission.
“We have two NPP members at the EC, but we have tolerated them,” he said.
Owusu questioned why his own appointment would attract opposition if others with political backgrounds have been accepted.
“Why can’t you tolerate me at the EC? What are you afraid of?” he asked.
He maintained that he possesses the qualifications required for such a role and said his approach would focus on strict adherence to electoral procedures.
“I am qualified,” Owusu stated. “I will scrutinise the forms.”
He added that his priority would be ensuring compliance with electoral rules throughout the process.
