Rev. Daniel Annan has called for maturity and wisdom in marriages when couples face conflicts, particularly when one partner uses intimacy to avoid difficult conversations.
Rev. Annan was asked about situations where a partner turns to sex instead of addressing problems in the relationship.
“Maturity, maturity and wisdom is the key to resolve,” he said on Joy Prime.
Rev. Annan said couples inevitably face complexities, difficulties and conflicts, but those moments should lead them to sit down and work through their problems.
He said pressure and conflict can expose problems within a relationship, but couples need maturity to address what comes out of those difficult moments.
“When you see that the emotions, the way the behavior of…” he began, before continuing his point about how couples should handle conflict.
Rev. Annan’s comments formed part of a wider discussion on whether intimacy can be used to avoid difficult conversations in marriage.
He said resolving marital problems requires couples to confront the underlying issues rather than relying on intimacy to move past them without discussion.
