Policy analyst Franklin Cudjoe has asked the Office of the Special Prosecutor to reconsider charges brought against Ato Boateng, a senior official at the Ghana Cocoa Board.
In a Facebook post, the president of IMANI Africa said the charges were connected to disagreements over financial claims presented to COCOBOD.
“Please OSP, please drop the charges,” he wrote.
Cudjoe also highlighted Boateng’s professional background, noting that he is a Harvard trained Chartered Financial Analyst who previously worked with the International Finance Corporation before establishing Atlas Commodities Limited.
According to him, Boateng’s experience in cocoa trading and commodity management contributed to his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Administration at COCOBOD.
Cudjoe said Boateng’s role has been important to the organisation’s financial oversight.
He also cautioned that ongoing disputes around the issue could affect COCOBOD’s relationship with its financial partners if not handled carefully.
“Right now Ato is the best decision ever made by the CEO, Randy Abbey, and the President,” he wrote.
Cudjoe concluded that resolving the matter properly would help maintain confidence in the cocoa sector and its management.
