Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has questioned the government’s response to galamsey, following its acknowledgment that some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been involved in the practice.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Newsfile on JoyNews, he said the issue is not new and has been known for some time.
“The president has admitted something that all of us have always known,” he stated, adding that concerns about involvement in galamsey were raised even while he was in government.
He described illegal mining as a serious challenge and pointed to commitments made in the government’s manifesto.
“Galamsey is a serious issue… the government promised specific actions,” he said, questioning what steps have been taken since assuming office.
Using a simple analogy, he stressed the need for direct accountability.
“If I know the beef I left in my fridge was taken by my son, I won’t go to my neighbour. I deal with the person responsible,” he said.
