Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has urged citizens and the media to support efforts to tackle drug abuse, saying government cannot address the challenge on its own.
He said sustained collaboration is needed to protect young people and strengthen the country’s response to substance abuse.
“We may think it’s a joke, but I tell you, in the next 10 years, if we don’t stop this, we will lose the value of our society. We will lose our youth, we will lose these young people who are the future of our country. We will lose them to drugs,” he said in a video sighted by MyNewsGh.
Dr Amin Adam also appealed to media organisations to use their platforms to raise awareness about the issue.
“This is why I’m appealing to you to make sure your platforms are used very well. You have a lot to do as far as this matter is concerned.”
He maintained that tackling drug abuse requires a partnership between government and the public.
“Government cannot do it alone. Government is for the people, and government is by the people. People put the government there, and if we don’t support government…”
