Media personality Blakofe has reacted to Ghana’s two-day national clean-up exercise, saying her long-standing calls for cleaner surroundings were often misunderstood by critics.
The government declared Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as nationwide clean-up days as part of efforts to address sanitation challenges, particularly in areas affected by recent floods.
The exercise, themed ‘Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the Floods,’ focuses on activities such as clearing silt from drains, removing plastic waste and clearing debris from public spaces.
Reacting to the exercise, Blakofe said she was happy to see attention being given to the need for a cleaner environment.
“I’m enjoying my break from this app. No toxicity for a few days now. But, I had to post about Ghana getting cleaned,” she wrote.
She recalled facing criticism in the past for speaking about sanitation and maintaining clean surroundings.
“For years, I’ve been called crazy, bipolar, junkie, and bitter simply for saying let’s clean our country and not live in filth,” she said.
Blakofe questioned whether those same descriptions would now apply to leaders promoting a national clean-up exercise.
“Today, I’m wondering if our darling and lovely President Mahama is a junkie, crazy, bipolar or bitter. Or perhaps, he’s demonstrating great leadership. Which is it?” she asked.
She added that her comments on sanitation were not connected to seeking political opportunities, saying she had spoken about the issue before the current exercise.
“No JJCs should come display their ignorance here by saying I’m saying this today because I want a government job,” she stated.
