Renowned entertainment journalist Asare Baffour Moula has challenged the perception that Ghanaian artistes and celebrities exclusively wear original designer clothing, claiming that many of them also wear fake or imitation brands.
Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Asare Moula said fashion and entertainment have always been closely connected, with musicians and movie stars playing a major role in popularising clothing and fashion trends globally.
“Entertainment goes with fashion. Clothes that became famous throughout the world are through entertainment, specifically from musicians and movie stars,” he stated.
According to him, the use of designer clothing among celebrities should therefore be viewed within the broader relationship between entertainment and fashion rather than simply as a display of wealth or authenticity.
Asare Moula further argued that Ghanaian celebrities are not necessarily wearing authentic versions of every designer brand they display.
“No Ghanaian artiste wears only original; they all wear fake among their brands,” he claimed.
He cited Ghanaian artiste Oseikrom Sikani as an example, suggesting that not every celebrity has access to the same high-end fashion brands worn by international stars.
“Oseikrom Sikani can never wear the clothes of DJ Khaled,” he stated.
He maintained that even internationally recognised celebrities have, at various points, been associated with non-original clothing, suggesting that wearing imitation brands is not unique to Ghanaian entertainers.
