Before becoming one of Ghana’s most respected rappers, M.anifest says football was a big part of his life until his mother stopped him from continuing with the sport.
Speaking about what might have happened if music had not worked out, the rapper revealed that he once played Colts football as a midfielder and believed he had potential.
“I tried though. It’s my mother’s fault,” he said on Woezor TV.
“I used to play Colts soccer. I wish those were the digital ages where everybody had cameras. You’d have seen me. I used to play number six.”
According to M.anifest, his football journey ended after his mother discovered he had joined a team without telling her.
“My mother banned me from the team because I didn’t tell her I had joined. She saw me with a bunch of kubas and got scared I’d quit school.”
Although he now laughs about the experience, he joked that his life might have been very different if he had stayed in football.
“By now I could have had Messi money. Right now we have to go and play shows to chop.”
Despite leaving the sport behind, M.anifest said he still remembers those days fondly and hopes some of the teammates he played with eventually fulfilled their football ambitions.
“I hope they ended up on teams because I was also a kuba. I was just privileged.”
