Know the seven ministries scrapped by President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a government restructuring initiative, reducing the number of ministries from 29 to 23.

This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance efficiency, streamline operations, and establish a leaner, more effective administration.

The restructuring is seen as a necessary step to foster good governance, eliminate redundancies, and realign governmental priorities.

With this reorganisation, President Mahama has signalled his administration’s focus on strategic governance, innovation, and a commitment to addressing pressing national issues.

Among the key changes are the abolition of several ministries that were previously under the leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The following ministries have been axed:

  • Ministry of Information
  • Ministry of National Security
  • Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs
  • Ministry of Railway Development
  • Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources
  • Ministry of Public Enterprises
  • Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (merged with the Ministry of Local Government)
