Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kwaku Kwarteng, has petitioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over a recommendation concerning the constituency executive elections.
In his petition, Kwarteng called for sanctions against the MP for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, alleging misconduct in the matter.
He also challenged the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee’s recommendation that allowed Kofi Appianin Ennin to contest as 1st Vice Chairman for Obuasi West.
Kwarteng argued that claims that Ennin’s independent candidature in the 2024 elections was a party strategy were false.
“As Campaign Manager for the Obuasi West campaign in 2024, no decision was made by me, the Constituency Executive Committee, or any properly constituted Party organ known to me to authorise, sponsor, or support the independent candidature,” he stated.
He is asking the party to review the recommendation and address what he described as breaches of the party’s constitution.
