Leading Convention People’s Party (CPP) member Kwame Jantuah has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against allowing individuals contesting its executive positions to shoulder the cost of transporting delegates during the party’s internal elections.
Jantuah said the responsibility for organising and financing the election process should rest with the party rather than aspirants seeking positions.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day, he expressed concern about possible reports of aspirants giving delegates money for transport, saying such a situation should be avoided.
“Let’s hope it doesn’t happen. The party is supposed to be all over,” he said.
Jantuah acknowledged that the NPP had already taken responsibility for accommodation, adding that the party should also manage other logistical arrangements instead of leaving candidates to finance them.
“It is up to the party to take that responsibility, and that should be how every political party should act,” he said.
He warned against a situation where aspirants become responsible for expenses that should ordinarily be covered by the party, urging delegates to focus on the future of the NPP when choosing their leaders.
Jantuah shared this ahead of NPP’s its executive elections, which will determine the leadership responsible for guiding the party through its next phase.
