Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has questioned the consistency of player selection in the Black Stars, arguing that regular changes to the squad are preventing the national team from building a settled side.
Kingston, who has expressed interest in becoming Ghana’s next head coach, believes the Black Stars already have experienced players who should form the core of the team.
“When you look at the current Black Stars team, we already have players that have played more than five years. So automatically if you’ve been in the national team for more than five years, you are one of the senior players in the group. We already have that core,” Kingston told 3Sports.
The former Black Stars winger, who currently coaches Uganda’s junior national teams, said he does not believe Ghana have a settled team because of the regular changes to the squad between qualifiers and major tournaments.
“If where I’m sitting now, I don’t think we have a team now. We don’t have a team because it looks like the players that will play the qualifiers when it’s getting close to the tournament, almost half of them will not even appear,” he said.
