Let them come and arrest me – Nigel Gaisie vows to preach in buses despite ban

Prophet Nigel Gaisie has vowed to return to buses and lorries to preach the gospel despite Ghana’s road traffic regulations prohibiting preaching inside moving public and commercial vehicles.

Gaisie said he intends to preach on buses and lorries in the coming days and weeks, daring authorities to arrest him if they consider his actions a violation of the law.

“In the coming weeks or days, I will be on buses and lorries to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let them come and arrest me,” he said in a post on social media.

He said following renewed enforcement of Regulation 141 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026, which treats preaching and hawking inside a moving public or commercial vehicle as an offence.

The law carries a fine of 10 to 50 penalty units, imprisonment of up to eight months, or both.

The restriction is not entirely new. Ghana’s 2012 road traffic regulations also prohibited preaching and hawking in moving commercial vehicles, although the maximum prison term under the earlier provision was three months.

But Gaisie has questioned the reasoning behind the restriction, arguing that preaching on buses has long been part of how some Ghanaians encountered Christianity.

“What injury does one suffer while preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in a bus or lorry?” he asked.

He also argued that preachers do not simply enter vehicles without the knowledge of the driver.

“No preacher enters into the buses or lorries without the permission of the driver, so what is the point?” he said.

Gaisie described the restriction as “medieval and unprogressive thinking” and criticised the church for what he sees as a lack of boldness in defending public evangelism.

He recalled the days of Apostle Dr. Annor Yeboah of the Christ Apostolic Church, saying some preachers, including himself, were products of the kind of evangelism now being restricted.

“Some of us are product of preaching in buses,” he said.

He further accused the church of becoming too concerned with pleasing people and called for a return to what he considers a more outspoken approach to preaching the gospel.

“Everything works but not the church of Jesus Christ,” he said.
