Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, who was enstooled in 1937 and recognised as the longest-serving Paramount Chief in Asanteman, has been destooled by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The decision was announced during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Having occupied the Kenyase II stool for 89 years, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio’s reign spanned several generations within the Asante Kingdom.
According to proceedings of the Traditional Council, the destoolment was linked to violations of Asante customs and traditions.
Most of his kingmakers were also destooled after they were found to have breached their oath of office.
However, the Asantehene spared the Kontihene and reinstated the destooled Akyeame and other linguists of the traditional council.
