Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama is insulated from the financial burden of utility bills because the state covers his official expenses.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Haruna Mohammed argued that this makes it difficult for the President to fully appreciate the challenges faced by ordinary consumers.
“Because he doesn’t pay electricity bills, the state pays everything for him,” he said.
According to him, the Constitution prevents a sitting president from engaging in income-generating activities, making the state responsible for meeting his official expenses.
“Because he doesn’t go through those things, he doesn’t see how the people suffer,” Haruna Mohammed stated.
He maintained that rising utility costs continue to affect households across the country and said policymakers should remain mindful of the impact such increases have on citizens.
