Mahama orders expansion of security services recruitment from 20,000 to 40,000

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to double the recruitment for Ghana’s security services.

In a high-level meeting with the heads of security agencies, the Interior Minister, and the Acting Defence Minister, the President said the current recruitment target of 20,000 men and women should be increased to 40,000 over the next four years.

Speaking at the briefing, President Mahama said, “We must strengthen our security services, and this means increasing the number of personnel while ensuring the recruitment process is completely transparent and fair.”

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s spokesperson, added, “The President is clear that every step of this process must be accountable. Citizens should have confidence in how these recruitments are conducted.”

Present at the meeting were key officials, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, the National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director Generals of Prisons, Fire Service, Immigration Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.
