Mahama promises reliable power for Bright Industrial Complex within three weeks

President John Dramani Mahama has said the government expects to resolve power supply challenges at the Bright Industrial Complex within three weeks to support the expanding operations of factories in the area.

Mahama gave the assurance during a tour of industrial facilities, explaining that the existing power substation had become inadequate because of the rapid expansion of businesses.

“We are working to resolve the power issues here. Because of the fast expansion of the industries here, the power substation has become too small to contain it,” he said.

“But I can assure you that the Minister of Energy and GridCo have assured us that in the next three weeks, they will change the transformer, and this area will have reliable power.”

He said the upgrade would enable factories to operate full 24-hour shifts without the current power constraints.

The President also highlighted the range of manufacturing activities taking place at the industrial complex, including textile production, battery manufacturing, truck assembly and steel fabrication.

He said he had observed more factories during his latest visit than when he toured the area the previous year.

Mahama also announced that work was beginning on the new Afinya Industrial Park, an extension of the Ghana Free Zones Authority’s industrial enclave. Initial infrastructure works will include roads, water and electricity.

He said the government intended to position Ghana as a manufacturing hub, helping local businesses expand beyond the domestic market.

“We are going to create the environment where you use Ghana as the hub,” he said, adding that the government would support manufacturers to obtain licences under the African Continental Free Trade Area to reach markets across the continent.
