Mahama Promises Relief for Tamale’s Water Crisis With New Pumps

President John Dramani Mahama says heavy-duty pumps at the Dalong waterworks will be fully operational next month, as an EU-financed project extends piped water to three northern towns.

President John Dramani Mahama says new pumps at the Dalong waterworks will bring “immediate relief to Tamale’s water supply” once they are fully operational next month.

He announced this in a post on his Facebook page about steps to close the infrastructure gap in the north. He said he briefed a delegation of Dagbon chiefs on the interventions underway.

“To bridge the northern infrastructure deficit, I shared key socio-economic interventions underway with a delegation of chiefs from Dagbon,” the President wrote.

EU-financed project

Mr Mahama said the interventions include an EU-financed water expansion project “to build piped water networks across Tamale, Yendi, and Damongo.”

On the Dalong waterworks, he wrote: “Newly installed heavy-duty pumps at the Dalong waterworks will become fully operational next month, bringing immediate relief to Tamale’s water supply.”

Peace and infrastructure

The President said the north needs peace and reliable infrastructure to attract investment and create jobs.

“Peace and reliable public infrastructure are the twin engines needed to drive private investment and create sustainable jobs for our youth,” he wrote.

He said the government is working on broader public utility issues. “We are tackling long-standing utility challenges to lower the cost of living, support business, and lay a solid foundation for agro-industrial expansion,” he said.

The post did not give the project’s cost or timeline, or the date of the meeting with the chiefs.
