The young man captured in a viral video assaulting a midwife at Tema Community 22 Polyclinic has been arrested.
Beyond that, the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate has condemned the attack while praising the Ghana Police Service for responding quickly to the incident.
According to the Directorate, the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, when the health worker was enforcing the facility’s visiting hours policy. Officials described the attack as unprovoked.
“We stand firmly behind the affected midwife and every member of staff across our facilities. They come to work to serve the public, and they must be able to do so without fear of physical harm,” the Directorate said in a statement.
The accused person is expected to appear in court on June 8, 2026.
The Directorate stressed that violence against health workers will not be tolerated and urged members of the public to use the Client Service Desk available in all Ghana Health Service facilities to lodge complaints or seek redress.
“Assault is not a channel for redress, and it will not be treated as one,” the statement added.
