Nigerian lawyer Ilavbare Goldfish Rahmatulai has blamed the way men are raised for many marital failures, arguing that some enter marriage without the discipline, responsibility and accountability required to sustain a relationship.
Rahmatulai said her experience counselling couples in at least 100 marriages over the past three years had shaped her view that men’s upbringing plays a major role in marital problems.
“This isn’t for anger or insults but for sober reflection,” she wrote.
According to the lawyer, while some women also cause serious damage in marriages, she believes a greater share of the responsibility lies with men who were not adequately prepared for commitment.
“About 20% of severe marital damage is done by naturally bad women. But the remaining 80% comes down to irresponsible, undisciplined men who were never prepared for the weight of commitment and accountability,” she stated.
Rahmatulai urged Generation X parents to pay closer attention to how they raise their children, particularly their sons, and prepare them to take responsibility in their relationships.
“GEN X, let us do better with our children, especially our sons. There is still time,” she added.
