Minority will boycott closed-door meeting on South Africa evacuation over spending records – Jinapor

Samuel A. Jinapor, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, has said the Minority Caucus will not participate in a closed-door meeting on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa unless the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides detailed records of how funds for the exercise were spent.

The Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expected to brief members on the evacuation.

In a statement, Jinapor said the Minority had formally requested the expenditure records but was yet to receive them.

“In these circumstances, the Minority does not consider it appropriate to participate in a closed door meeting intended to discuss the same subject matter while its formal request for the underlying expenditure records remains outstanding,” he said.

He said the Minority would therefore not attend the meeting unless the Ministry provides an itemised account and supporting records covering the expenditure on the evacuation and reintegration exercise.

“Accordingly, the Minority Caucus on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament will not participate in the closed-door meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 16th September 2026, unless and until the Ministry provides the itemized account and supporting records requested,” Jinapor stated.
