MPs to receive government support to venture into poultry farming – Eric Opoku

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is preparing a proposal to support Members of Parliament who want to venture into poultry farming, Minister Eric Opoku has disclosed.

Appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Assurances on Thursday, July 9, the minister said the proposal would be presented to Parliament for consideration.

If approved, the ministry would provide support to MPs interested in establishing poultry farms.

Although he described it as a proposal, Opoku said preparations were already at an advanced stage.

According to him, the ministry is procuring chicks intended mainly for Members of Parliament as part of the planned initiative.

He explained that once the proposal is presented to the House, MPs would receive guidance on how to prepare for the programme before the chicks are distributed.

“As soon as the birds are ready, we then distribute them to the various places for members of parliament to be in that business,” he said.

The minister said the initiative is intended to encourage MPs to invest in poultry production, adding that lawmakers have the capacity to expand such businesses once they develop an interest in the sector.

He noted that the programme is aimed at stimulating participation in poultry farming, which he described as a viable business.

Opoku also cited his own experience, telling the committee that he is a poultry farmer himself.
