Music is my platform, but my restaurant pays the bills – D-Black

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur D-Black detailed the strategic balance between his music career and his business ventures, noting they serve different roles in his success.

He explained that his music provided the initial platform for his brand.

“Publicly and popularity wise, I would say the music… and that’s given me so many platforms to be able to build the business on,” he said on Hitz FM monitored by MyNewsGh.

However, he was clear about which sector drives his finances. “But financially I’ll say the hospitality business,” he stated, referring to his restaurant, club, and lounge. “I had to put a lot of focus into that.”

This creates a deliberate cycle where his focus shifts yearly. He admitted he is not as consistent with music releases as some peers.

“But when I do it, it’s financially rewarding,” he said. “Then in the year that I have the music, I pay less attention to the hospitality business.

“So then I keep going back and forth.” This model, inspired by his mother’s 30-year career in tourism, has defined his last decade in business.
