My greatest fear in this world was going to prison – Wontumi Speaks from Nsawam

Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has opened up about how prison changed his perspective on life, telling Broadcast Journalist Kwame Tanko that he feared prison most before he found himself behind bars.

Kwame Tanko, popularly known as KT, shared the message on his show on Monday, October 26, 2026, after visiting him at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

According to the broadcaster, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman reflected on his situation and advised accepting difficult realities rather than letting anger and regret take over.

“My greatest fear in this world is going to prison, but now I’m here,” Wontumi reportedly told Tanko.

The statement offered a glimpse into how the politician has been dealing with his imprisonment, which came after his conviction in the Samreboi illegal mining case.

Tanko said Wontumi encouraged him and others close to him to accept what had happened and focus on moving forward instead of remaining trapped in the past.

“What will happen has happened,” Wontumi reportedly said, urging them to let go of anger and come to terms with the situation.

His advice centred on facing reality, even when life takes an unexpected turn. Wontumi’s reported comments suggest that his own experience in prison has forced him to confront a fear he once considered his greatest.

Tanko also indicated that Wontumi remained in good spirits during the visit and appeared to be mentally enduring the challenges of incarceration.

The politician is also facing a separate legal battle connected to the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve case, adding to his legal difficulties.
