NDC Could Put Asiedu Nketia at EC and Still Lose in 2028 — Arick Yakubu

Atick Yakubu, a national youth organizer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that no Electoral Commission Officer can influence the outcome of elections in Ghana.

According to him, these officers appointed to man these offices are mostly in their comfort zones in the National capital and have little to no influence in the real work that happens on the ground.

Therefore, even party apologists can be appointed to the position, and they will have little to no influence in the outcome of elections.

His comments come on the back of the government confirming that one deputy EC deputy chairperson has retired while the other has resigned to pursue academia.

“Whoever is appointed the EC boss cannot move from Accra to influence how people vote in Akwatia, Kade and any other place in the country. From our history, Afari Gyan was appointed by JJ and NDC lost the 2000 elections, Mahama appointed Charlotte Osei but lost the 2016 elections and NPP appointed Jean Mensah but lost 2024 elections.

When the ballot is counted at the polling station, we move it to the collation centre and we are all watching. You can’t change anything, the same way the NPP was complaining about the EC in 2016 but still won the elections.

I am saying that it is about the systems and structure you put in place as a political party that will help you to win the general elections. Respectfully, if Asiedu Nketia is made the Deputy EC boss, if they will lose the election, they will lose. It all depends on the work we put in as a political party,” he said.
