NPP Director of Communications Dennis Miracles Aboagye has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of enabling illegal mining in Ghana since 2009, claiming the problem has consistently worsened whenever the party is in government.
He said the party’s record on galamsey raised questions about its commitment to tackling the menace, arguing that the NDC had not demonstrated a consistent willingness to fight illegal mining.
Mr Aboagye insisted that the NDC had historically been part of the problem rather than an effective force against it.
“The NDC has always been an enabler of galamsey in this country since 2009. They have always been. Their history is there. Their records are there. Their facts are there,” he stated on Joy News.
He further claimed that the galamsey situation tends to worsen under NDC administrations and that the party had not shown evidence of effectively addressing the problem.
“The galamsey situation always worsens when NDC comes to power. That is a fact. And the government that has never been able to show any proof of properly fighting galamsey is always the NDC,” he said.
To support his argument, Mr Aboagye referred to comments he attributed to former Environment Minister Mahama Ayariga in 2013, when he said the minister had expressed doubts about the possibility of winning the fight against illegal mining.
He cited the remarks as part of what he described as the NDC’s historical record on the issue.
