Seasoned journalist Paul Adom-Otchere has said the NDC currently has the advantage going into the 2028 election but could still lose if it fails to deal with growing concerns about its performance in government.
“The 2028 elections is NDC’s to lose,” he said in an interview with Kwadwo Sheldon.
Adom-Otchere, however, said the NPP’s base is already becoming active again, especially in the Ashanti Region.
He said the party’s new executives have started mobilising supporters, which could make the 2028 contest more difficult for the governing NDC.
“The NPP base is being energized. It’s happened very quickly,” he said.
He also believes the NDC could face difficulties when it eventually chooses a new presidential candidate.
According to him, changing a candidate can affect a party because of the human side of politics, especially when different groups begin positioning themselves for the next election.
Adom-Otchere said the NDC’s advantage comes partly from being in government, which gives a governing party a major advantage in elections.
But he warned that this alone may not be enough.
He said voters are already beginning to compare the current government with the previous administration on issues such as teacher training, food programmes and police recruitment.
“The governance system people are already beginning to see that, oh, beyond the economic situation, the governance system was different,” he said.
He added that the NDC must pay attention to what voters are seeing and feeling outside government circles.
