NDC will not shield members accused of sexual misconduct – Fiifi Kwetey

NDC General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey has assured that the party will not interfere with investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct against any of its members, insisting that anyone found guilty must face the consequences of the law.

He said the party wanted an independent investigation to establish the facts and would not protect anyone found culpable, following allegations involving Obuasi Senior High Technical School headmaster Zakaria Abdulai.

“We do not endorse any such conduct and we want the law enforcement to do an independent job. We assure the world that this party would not in any way interfere,” Kwetey said at the party’s headquarters.

He added that the outcome of the investigations should provide the public with assurance that neither the party nor the government would shield people accused of wrongdoing.

“We want the truth to be brought out and, on the back of the truth, the country would have clear assurance that as a party and as a government, we do not cover anybody,” he said.

Kwetey stressed that the accused would have to accept the outcome of the process, whether it cleared him or established his guilt.

“If he’s found guilty, he will pay the licence price. If he’s not guilty, we’ll be happy for him. So, we want law enforcement to do its own,” he said.

Abdulai has been interdicted and arrested following allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse involving female students, which emerged from an exposé by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.
