NPP General Secretary hopeful calls for stronger polling station structures and youth engagement

Former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi has stated that the New Patriotic Party must return to grassroots organising and strengthen its local structures as it prepares for future elections.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the aspiring NPP General Secretary said effective political leadership is built on direct engagement with party members and voters at the community level.

“When I was selected as a candidate in June 2015, I travelled for three months, and when I returned in November, we went to every house, church, and mosque in Subin. People could feel that you were a grassroots person,” he said.

He added that practical experience gained from interacting with voters helps political leaders perform effectively.

“The experience you get from the ground, if you are able to bring it to the top, that is what makes you effective,” he stated.

Boakye Antwi also referred to the NPP’s preparations ahead of the 2016 elections, saying the party placed emphasis on readiness and attention to detail.

“We sat and said there cannot be an election where results are declared and, as a candidate, you cannot get your hands on your pink sheet,” he said.

“What was our readiness? You do not go for elections just like that. If you are a candidate or parliamentary candidate on the ground, you know where all the challenges can come from, so you prepare.”

He said stronger polling station structures and greater youth involvement should form part of the party’s rebuilding efforts ahead of future elections.
