NPP pushing Bawumia loyalists into key positions – Ebo Buckman

United Party Deputy Director of Communications Ebo Buckman has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of seeking to place loyalists of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in key positions across its leadership, including Parliament and parliamentary constituencies.

Buckman said the party’s internal reorganisation appeared aimed at consolidating the influence of the Bawumia camp following the election of its loyalists to national executive positions.

“They think that where they have gotten to or where they are getting to, they need Bawumia loyalists to occupy the various positions,” he said on TV3.

He argued that the strategy extended beyond the party’s national executives to the Minority leadership and the selection of parliamentary candidates.

“Now that you’ve got Bawumia loyalists as national executives, they would want the leaders in Parliament to be the same and also even the parliamentary candidates,” Buckman said.

He claimed that the effort to align the party’s structures with one faction could undermine internal competition and restrict opportunities for members who support other political figures.

Buckman specifically warned former supporters of Alan Kyerematen and Kennedy Agyapong who remain in the NPP against spending money on their parliamentary ambitions, arguing that party insiders could determine who gets to contest.

“If you have ever supported Alan before in NPP, if you ever supported Kennedy, don’t go and pay 5,000 for your intentions for your dream. You are going to waste your money because at the vet they will tell you you don’t qualify,” he said.

He questioned how the party could claim to be strengthening its electoral prospects while limiting the influence of ordinary members in choosing parliamentary candidates.
