NPP wants US to scrutinise Ghanaian diplomatic and service passports

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the United States to scrutinise Ghanaian diplomatic and service passports issued since January 2025, following allegations that six beneficiaries were approved using inaccurate or non-existent official positions.

In a letter dated October 30, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party asked US Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson to verify passport holders’ employment and official positions with the relevant Ghanaian institutions before extending diplomatic courtesies to them.

The NPP cited two Ministry of Foreign Affairs approval letters dated August 6 and 7, 2026, covering three officials each from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Fisheries Commission.

It alleged that the positions attributed to the six beneficiaries were either occupied by other officers or did not exist.

“A passport cannot be for official use where its bearer holds no office that calls for official travel,” the party said, describing the approvals as irregular.

The NPP is also demanding an independent audit of diplomatic and service passports issued since January 7, 2025, publication of a comprehensive list of beneficiaries, and the revocation of passports found to have been issued improperly.

It wants anyone implicated in wrongdoing investigated and potentially prosecuted.
