NPP’s Nana Yaa, Who Claimed GH¢40bn in Projects Is Dead

New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant Beatrice Owarewa Siaw, popularly known as Nana Yaa, who claimed to have invested over GH¢40 billion into the Asante Mampong Constituency, has reportedly died.

Details surrounding the circumstances of her death remain sketchy, but MyNewsGh.com, citing family sources, says it has confirmed her death, though the family is appealing for privacy as they make preparations toward an official announcement.

Siaw was a prominent businesswoman and philanthropist who had been campaigning to contest the Asante Mampong parliamentary seat on the NPP ticket. She had set out an ambitious vision to transform the constituency through industrialisation and youth empowerment, and said her frequent interactions with residents had revealed a strong desire for change.

Her candidacy drew attention earlier this year after she made headlines over the scale of her claimed development spending in the area. Speaking during a campaign engagement, she asserted that she had undertaken development projects valued at more than GH¢40 billion in the constituency, stating she had done “over 40 billion Ghana cedis’ worth of projects” and was even doing projects that had never been done before in the area.

She attributed her confidence in securing the party’s nod to her strong connection with grassroots supporters and her humble approach to leadership, saying this made her a key contender to become the constituency’s Member of Parliament.
