Obuasi SHTS case: I warned the headmaster against female students’ visits- Kumasi Mayor

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, said he cautioned the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, against allowing female students to visit him amid concerns about his conduct.

Speaking before Parliament’s Local Government Committee, the mayor said he warned the headmaster because of the perception surrounding him in Obuasi.

“I admonished him and asked him not to allow female students to come so that the perception being created about him in Obuasi would not be fuelled,” he said.

Mr Abdulai has been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) pending investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving 19 female students.

Mr Agyemang Boadi also denied claims that he shielded the headmaster from accountability, insisting he had neither supervisory authority over him nor control over disciplinary decisions.

“I don’t have any direct supervisory role over the headmaster. I have nothing to do with whether he was going to be sanctioned. So I cannot, with any shred of imagination, be covering him up,” he said.
