Ofori-Atta case: We must not turn prosecution into public judgment – Martin Amidu

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has stated that there’s the growing influence of media narratives on ongoing legal and investigative processes involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In an open letter sighted by MyNewsGh, he argues that public commentary and media framing risk replacing formal judicial processes with what he describes as judgment in the court of public opinion.

He stated that: “The continued political witch-hunt against Ken Ofori-Atta by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and sections of the media is nauseating and shameful.”

Amidu stressed that allegations of corruption must be tested strictly within constitutional and legal frameworks rather than through sustained public discourse.

He further noted that once investigative matters become public campaigns, it may affect fairness in any eventual legal proceedings.

According to him, the principle of due process requires that suspects are not treated as guilty before a competent court reaches a determination.

He added that constitutional guarantees apply equally to all individuals, regardless of political position or public perception.
