National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator Comrade Umar Harris has accused Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of opposing efforts to continue investigations because they fear a repeat of what happened to Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Comrade Harris questioned why individuals who believe they have done nothing wrong would resist efforts to have their cases dealt with promptly.
“Hon. Oppong Nkrumah and the NPP are afraid because of what happened to Chairman Wontumi, and they don’t want the NDC government to continue the investigation,” he alleged.
He argued that, logically, individuals who are confident of their innocence should welcome an early resolution of the matters rather than seek delays.
“Common-sensibly, if they think they are not guilty, why do they have to fight for legal vacation?” he asked.
According to him, concluding the cases early would benefit both the accused persons and the state, as those involved would know their fate and be able to concentrate on their respective responsibilities.
“If the case is tried early and the ruling is made, the accused will be able to focus on their respective duties assigned to them,” he said.
Comrade Harris therefore suggested that the push for legal vacation could be an attempt to buy time rather than a genuine concern about the administration of justice.
“It seems they just want to delay time,” he stated.
